Blog Archive – June 2009
30 June 2009Thankfully the rain has stopped and hopefully will return this summer. Just too much of a good thing has made it possible for weeds to THRIVE and wet fields have made it hard to till and plant. I have never in 12 years of farming heard Ivor say that he has had too much rain in June!
It has been a challenging year with (so far) a tractor that broke (now fixed) a walk-behind tiller that broke (now fixed) and a tractor tiller that broke (still broken). But Ivor, in his twelfth season, with help from Seamus, in his second season with us, and Diana, new to Field Day but an experienced farmer from Angelic Organics in Chicago, and four new apprentices, Tiffany, from Lexington, Marlena, from Louisville, Lydia and Jamie, both from Michigan, are working very hard through heat, rain and now, relatively mild weather, to bring you a variety of delicious, beautiful vegetables and fruits.
I have included two new recipes to make good use of the carrots you have been getting in your boxes (carrot risotto and carrot fettuccine). Please feel free to send in any recipes to me and we will post them on the website. I am also hoping to find our Beet and Fennel Soup recipe in time for today's CSA box. Ivor has now been making it so long from his own memory that we haven't needed the written one.
Thank you for your membership.

We currently have an opening for our CSA. The season has already started so the price would be prorated. The cost of the Extended season which goes on to the week before Thanksgiving is $590 (before prorate) and the cost of the Regular season which continues into the first week of November is $480 (before prorate). I must offer apologies to any and all interested persons who were on our waiting list for this season. We had to turn several people away and I no longer have the email addresses to contact you (a bad business decision on my part to delete email addresses!) If you are interested in joining our CSA please contact me via email and I will give you more information.
